The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye

I cannot tell you how excited beyond belief I was to get my hands on an ARC of The Crown’s Game! If you haven’t heard about it, it’s one of Harper Teen’s most hyped up spring  releases set in imperial Russia. I love books set in Russia, I love alt-history books, and I love sorcery. It was pretty obvious I was going to love this book.

The book is about two enchanters, Vika Andreyev (side note: such a beautiful name) and Nikolai Karimov who are battling each other to the death. Vika’s magic is more natural, whereas Nikolai’s is much more cosmopolitan. They’re battling for the position as the tsar’s Imperial Enchanter, a position only one of them can have.

While The Crown’s Game falls short in terms of writing style, it makes up for it with truly incredible world building and nuanced characters.
